West Highland Wednesday: Part 3

Boulder day! If you thought this walk might be a flat and easy ride, then you’d be wrong. From Rowardennan to Inverarnan you will come across some stunning scenery, a few waterfalls and rocky terrain.

I personally really enjoyed this day because I felt like a little kid again. Jumping from rock to rock, climbing boulders and throwing pebbles into the Loch to see how many times it bounced (needless to say I wasn’t very good at this).

This day was a solid long distance walk as well as a tough one physically. Not going to lie, when we came to the end of the Loch and I could see civilisation, I thought we had finished our day. Little did I know we had another hour and half before the walk was due to end, and it well and truly kill me off! Yes, this was a great day but for me the hardest day.

Apparently there is a low road and a high road from Rowardennan to Inverarnan, but we ended up taking the low road without realising. I’m glad we did though because you were able to walk along side the Loch and witness the angelic waters to your left and heavily waterfalls to your right.

I’ve heard many people say they want to run The Way and i’m sure you can, but I would say this day would probably slow you down. Some of the boulders required you to pull yourself up, and if it’s raining I image they would become very slippery as well. This of course becomes an issue especially as you’re so close to the Loch. So please take your time!

Along the way we met some wild campers, as we passed them by they were stocking up their filtered water bottles with water from the falls. Something I wouldn’t of even considered, but I think it’s a genius idea when you’re wild camping. I bet the fresh Scottish water taste incredible!

At the end of the walk we stayed in a log cabin, surrounded by tents and campers. I would definitely get the midgey spray out here. Take it from experience and from someone who is a tasty catch for the little fella’s, you won’t want to skip the insect repellant here.

Round up of the day –

Rocky Terrian

Be prepared for some climbing

Take it easy on the rocks because you’re very close to the Loch

Make sure you take a moment to take in your surroundings and look at how stunning Loch Lomond is.

Overall a tough but beautiful day.

Go check my vlog for Part 3 of West Highland Wednesdays to see what I mean by the fabulous scenery that surrounds you on this walk. Until next time my lovelies.
